Distillery Winter Village 2026: Free vs Ticketed Visits, Compared
Distillery Winter Village runs Nov 12, 2026 to Jan 3, 2027. Here is when it's free, when you need a ticket, what's new this year, and how to get there.
Toronto's best-known Christmas market returns to the Distillery Historic District at 55 Mill Street from November 12, 2026 to January 3, 2027, and it is closed on Christmas Day. The big planning question isn't whether to go, it's when. Entry rules change by day and by time, and picking the right slot can save you the ticket price entirely.
Option 1: The free visit
According to the Distillery Winter Village FAQ and TodoCanada's season announcement, you can walk in free all day Monday through Wednesday until December 13. On ticketed days, you also get in free if you are inside the gates before 4 p.m. Thursdays in November are free too, except Opening Night. The trade-off is that you see the Victorian-era buildings in daylight, with the lights less dramatic, and the FAQ warns of line-ups on days when the 4 p.m. cutoff applies.
Option 2: The evening ticketed visit
Tickets are required from 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, on Thursdays in December, and every day from December 14 to 31, plus Opening Night. This is the classic after-dark experience with the illuminated buildings, vendor cabins, carollers and the giant tree in Trinity Square. Tickets are sold online only (no on-site box office), are non-refundable but transferable, and there is no re-entry once you leave. Children nine and under are always free.
Prices are worth double-checking before you buy. The FAQ says tickets start at $16 plus HST and a service charge, while TodoCanada's article lists General, Flex and Express tiers with after-fee prices around $19.89, $22.37 and $37.29 (a summary box in the same article shows $16, $18 and $30 before fees).
What is new this year
TodoCanada reports a redesigned Santa's Village moved indoors to Soulpepper Theatre, a new tree design kept secret until opening night, and a separately ticketed immersive digital Nutcracker experience (pricing not yet announced). Announced performers include the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and Myriad Ensemble, with Mirvish Productions programming. The full entertainment and vendor lineup was expected in October.
Getting there
The market is a short walk from Union Station or the King and Queen streetcar lines. The 504A King streetcar stops at Distillery Loop on Cherry Street, steps from the entrance, and Wheel-Trans passengers can use the accessible entrance at the Main Gate.
How to choose
Go on a weekday afternoon or any Monday to Wednesday before mid-December if you want to browse for free and avoid crowds. Pay for an evening ticket if the lit-up atmosphere is the point, and book early for weekends. Families with young kids benefit from the free under-nine entry and the earlier slots.
